Mean Who You Are

I love reading and writing. I read most genres but my favourites would be paranormal romances and inspirational/motivational books. I have mostly started this blog because I love to read so much and want to share my reviews and thoughts with the world or anyone who wants to read it, giving my little bit of input to the world as well as any topics of light that would help and motivate you. I am also an aspiring author, in between reading books and reviewing them, I am writing two separate books, one fiction and one non-fiction. I have too many books and Ebooks, enough to last me probably 2 lifetimes! You can never have enough books... he he

Avoiding Alpha (Alpha Girl 2) - Aileen Erin

Publication Date: 13 May 2014
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Fantasy, YA

Overview:

Seventeen-year-old Tessa McCaide has come a long way since her abrupt entrance into the world of werewolves, but she still has just as far to go before she’s comfortable with turning full wolf. In the meantime, she’s avoiding the topic of shifting to four legs any way she can. Thankfully her mate, Dastien Laurent, is quite the distraction.

When she finds her best friend, Meredith, getting sick in the bathroom, Tessa knows something’s majorly wrong. Meredith was cursed years ago, and the dark magic kept her wolf dormant—only now the wolf is awake, and that same spell is killing her.

Tessa has no intention of sitting around while Meredith wastes away. Even if it means playing with magic she doesn’t understand, she’ll do anything to save Meredith’s life. Including bargaining with the local coven of witches and its crazed leader, whose only goal is getting Tessa to join the witchy ranks.

Can Tessa save her friend without losing herself?

Previous reviews:
Becoming Alpha (Alpha Girl #1) (5 stars)

My Review:

I have been so excited about this release since I read Becoming Alpha in December and literally finished in 2 days! When Ink Monster Publishers invited me to review the sequel via NetGalley - I jumped onto the opportunity. Tess and Dastien are one of my favourite paranormal couples!!

Let me tell you the Aileen knows how to suck you into the story with her writing and get you caught up in all the drama.

Characters & Storyline: 4/5

Tess - I loved Tess in Becoming Alpha. I was super intrigued to see how life was at the Werewolf Academy, after the dust has settled down and the tribunal is on the horizon. I became a bit frustrated with her self doubt, I understood her concerns about with what was going on but I wished she had a bit more confidence - it really irritated me. I can't say I loved her as much as in book 1 but I still enjoyed her journey none-the-less. I really want to see her grow into her brujapowers too! I think Tess is going to kick it up a notch in the next book: Alpha Divided.

Dastien - I loved him just as much as in Becoming Alpha. Dastien is so caring and adorable. I love that this Alpha Male doesn't have any issues!!! I was intrigued at one part where there was a vision of him crying but I am sure Aileen will give us some more of Dastien's past some time or another (hint hint nudge nudge). I am not sure what more I can say other than I adore Dastien!

Plot, Pace, Writing style: 3.5/5
I enjoyed the storyline, it was original and interesting. I liked the combo of bruja and werewolf in this series.

Avoiding Alpha jumped into the story too quickly for me. I would have liked a scene or two maybe with Dastien and Tess or Tess and Meredith - to see how Tess has settled in to her new life as a werewolf before everything goes down. Other than that, the story is intense and fast-paced from the world go. The ending does leave you hanging a bit but no cliff hanger - thank goodness! I am so excited to see things come together in Alpha Divided.

Cover talk: 4/5
The cover is catching! I wonder if that is Dastien on the cover with Tess or Meredith. I think it's Meredith because most of the story is about her and the field and.... READ THE BOOK!

Final Thoughts: I was mildly satisfied with this book, but I am still super excited for the rest of this series!!
