Mean Who You Are

I love reading and writing. I read most genres but my favourites would be paranormal romances and inspirational/motivational books. I have mostly started this blog because I love to read so much and want to share my reviews and thoughts with the world or anyone who wants to read it, giving my little bit of input to the world as well as any topics of light that would help and motivate you. I am also an aspiring author, in between reading books and reviewing them, I am writing two separate books, one fiction and one non-fiction. I have too many books and Ebooks, enough to last me probably 2 lifetimes! You can never have enough books... he he

Topic of Light ~ Mini Book Review: The Five Levels of Attachment: Toltec Wisdon for the Modern World by Don Miguel Ruiz Jnr

The Five Levels of Attachment: Toltec Wisdom for the Modern World - Don Miguel Ruiz Jr., Don Miguel Ruiz Sr

Publisher: Hay House
Publication Date: 01 March 2013
Genre: Spirituality
Source:Purchase
Audio or Book: Paperback
Length: 150 pages

Overview:
Building on the principles found in his father's bestselling book The Four Agreements, don Miguel Ruiz Jr. invites us to gauge how attached we are to our own point of view. In The Five Levels of Attachment, he will help you gain awareness of the agreements you have been implicitly making all these years that shape your reality and affect your future and show you how to release the attachments which no longer reflect who you really are. This method is twenty years in the making. When don Miguel Ruiz Jr. began his apprenticeship into his family's Toltec tradition, he was just fourteen years old. His first task was translating his grandmother's talks from Spanish into English. One day, as he struggled to keep up with her, she asked him: Are you using knowledge, or is knowledge using you? Finding the answer to this question would shape the destiny of his life. In this groundbreaking work, Ruiz explains each of the Five Levels of Attachment in detail and shows that as our level of attachment to a belief or idea increases, ?who we are? becomes directly linked to ?what we know.? Our attachment to beliefs ? our own and the beliefs of others ? manifests as a mask we don't realize we can take off. But with don Miguel Ruiz's help, and some Toltec wisdom along the way, we can return to our True, Authentic Selves, unhindered by judgment and free to pursue our true life's calling.

My Review:
This was an enjoyable read. It was not quite what I expected but - like with all books that deal with life concepts - I took out what meant something to me and left behind that which did not resonate with what I believe. There are some great concepts in the book - I think I expected something more along the lines of the Four Agreements

I enjoyed learning about the attachments and where the different levels are applied in my own life. If you enjoy spiritual reads, this is a quick snack. It isn't a heavy read and there is something in here for everyone.

Miguel has such a great way with words and explaining the concepts in layman's terms. Overall I enjoy his work and reading about the Toltec way.

Final Thoughts: It was still a great read that held some great concepts and advice. An enlightening read.

Author Bio:
Don Miguel Ruiz was born into a family of healers, and raised in rural Mexico by a curandera (healer) mother and a nagual (shaman) grandfather. The family anticipated that Miguel would embrace their centuries-old legacy of healing and teaching, and carry forward the esoteric Toltec knowledge. Instead, distracted by modern life, Miguel chose to attend medical school and become a surgeon. A near-death experience changed his life. Stunned by this experience, he began an intensive practice of self-inquiry. He devoted himself to the mastery of the ancient ancestral wisdom, studying earnestly with his mother, and completing an apprenticeship with a powerful shaman in the Mexican desert. In the tradition of the Toltecs, a nagual guides an individual to personal freedom. Don Miguel is a nagual from the Eagle Knight lineage, and is dedicated to sharing his knowledge of the teachings of the ancient Toltecs. He is the author of The Four Agreements, The Mastery of Love, and The Four Agreements Companion Book.
