Mean Who You Are

I love reading and writing. I read most genres but my favourites would be paranormal romances and inspirational/motivational books. I have mostly started this blog because I love to read so much and want to share my reviews and thoughts with the world or anyone who wants to read it, giving my little bit of input to the world as well as any topics of light that would help and motivate you. I am also an aspiring author, in between reading books and reviewing them, I am writing two separate books, one fiction and one non-fiction. I have too many books and Ebooks, enough to last me probably 2 lifetimes! You can never have enough books... he he

Book Review: Blood & Fire (Guardian Witch #4) by Ally Shields

Blood and Fire - Ally Shields

Series: Guardian Witch #4
Publisher: Etopia Press
Publication Date: 16 October 2013
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Fantasy
Source: Author (In exchange for an honest Review)
Audio or Book: ebook
Length: 306 pages

Goodreads Synopsis:

"A dead body, black magic, and a vampire enforcer..."

Ari thought her biggest problem was deciding if she should move in with her vampire boyfriend, Andreas. That was before they found the dead body at the bottom of the Riverdale cliffs. And before she realized he'd been cursed by black magic.

Just as she begins the murder investigation, the vampire rulers in Europe send an enforcer to make inquiries into the recent defeat of the Toronto vampire prince. While Andreas has taken responsibility for the brutal dictator's death, there is much about the incident that he and Ari must keep to themselves--secrets the vampire elders would stop at nothing to learn.

With threats of retaliation hanging over their heads, Ari moves into Andreas's Victorian mansion--for safety's sake--while the enforcer begins a campaign of terror. Ari is caught between competing dangers and challenges: black magic, a ghost, a missing Native American artifact...not to mention a new roommate...all while trying to stay alive...

My Review:

Up until this point I do think this is some of Ally's best work. I still need to read the next book and the series - which I am quite excited about and I am sure it will be just as good!

Blood & Fire has a very smooth star. It is not shocking but not boring either. Blood and Fire starts off with finding a body and they initially think its a suicide but soon suspect its a murder. A few more angles get waved into the story and keeps you on the edge of your seat as more complications arise.

Characters & Storyline: 4/5
I enjoyed the development of the main characters in Blood and Fire.

Ari - Ari is cool & smart as ever. I think she has grown as a character and I enjoyed Ari's development with her feelings and her relationship with Andreas. I would like to see Ari grow more into her powers and really see what she is capable of and I want to know more about her connection with Andreas. Ari is one tough cookie

Andreas - I love Andreas in Blood & Fire. He is a bit more vulnerable but I love how he is when he is with Ari. He is more open and definitely has grown attached to having her around. I am so excited to see where their relationship goes. You do find out a bit about Andreas's past - but I just want more! He is just that interesting and yummy <3

Stefan - Stefan wasn't really around much this book :(  I missed the werewolves in this segment.

Plot, Pace, Writing style: 4/5
Ally weaves the various plots/storylines beautifully. She layers them so well and keeps the story flowing at a perfect pace. Since I have been working on my own writing I can see how well put together the Guardian witch series is. Her plots link up perfectly with all her t's crossed and I's dotted. The writing felt a little segmented, the scenes could have been a little bit longer - but I'd rather have it this way than filler information. The main focus for me was on Andreas and Ari and how they grew and work together so well.

The ending was perfect! I loved it and couldn't have asked for a better one.
Cover talk: 5/5 I adored this cover!! It is definitely one of my favourites.

Final Thoughts: This is one of those series that just gets better and better. I am super excited to read the next book Fire Storm.

Author Bio:
I write urban fantasy/supernatural mysteries. The first three novels in the series have been released and Blood and Fire is scheduled for the fall of 2013. I am currently working hard on book 5. When not writing, I read multiple genres--urban fantasy, thrillers, mysteries, romance, and I love to travel-anywhere, anytime. I live in the Midwest with my miniature pinscher Ranger within driving distance of the Mississippi River that is the setting for my books.
